Ann Curry

Ann Curry is a photojournalist as well as a journalist, author and has reported on conflict zones over the last 45 years. Her focus is on the human suffering of disasters and human tragedy. Curry's Japanese-American mother as well as her U.S. navy-marine father played prominent roles in Curry's life. Following World War II, her parents met while her father was serving in Japan. In 1978 she graduated in 1978 from in the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. As a child, she was exposed to many kinds of cultures. Curry could not be a student at a particular school in Alameda, San Diego Oregon, or Virginia during the two-year period because her family was constantly moving. Ashland, Oregon is the place where Curry graduated. Her path to a successful career when she started her broadcasting career as a student intern at KTVL Channel 10 in Medford Oregon, eventually becoming the first news reporter female in the station's history at the aged of just 22. She then moved up to reporting and anchoring at KGW the NBC affiliate station in Portland. In the course of four years, she was appointed a reporter by KCBS TV in Los Angeles.
